Art's old buddies from Bradley University located him on-line and asked if they could all get together. A whole bunch of them will be coming over tonight for a St. Patrick's Day pot luck party. We will be providing the corned beef and everybody else will be bringing their favorite pot luck goodie. I've got the green laid out and I start simmering the corned beef in a couple of hours. Art hasn't seen these guys since college! This will be a lot of fun. I wonder if I'll find out anything new about him.

BED Update:

OK... we've got the stripping, the cleaning, the polishing and the lacquering done. However... and there's always a however, we found that the side rails were bowed down. There isn't enough support. You guessed it! Back to Home Depot for plumbing supplies for Art's innovative idea of using pipes and pipe flanges to create additional supports for the bed. We also got more wooden slats since it only came with three.

I have to say Art can be awfully ingenious. The supports looked like they belonged to the bed and really fixed the bowing.

We put the mattress and box spring on and found that the bed was pretty high. We'd need bed skirts. But guess what? Finding an 18 inch high bed skirt is pretty darn impossible unless you've already found that pot of gold.
I checked Overstock.com and found a nice bed skirt for a reasonable price and would have jumped up and down with joy except that when I tried to order it, it said (except Alaska and Hawaii). Arrrrghhhhh!
So I had them send it to my daughter in Chicago who will stick it in a flat rate box and mail it to us. Poor Tif, she's had to do this several times now. When I told her today, she chuckled and said, "Aha... another effort to save money, eh?"
I promised to make it up to her.

This is NOT the Finished Bed photo. When I get that bed skirt on, I'll post a really, really FINISHED Bed photo. We're almost there!
Happy St. Patrick's Day, Everybody!
That is one beautiful bed!
ReplyDeleteI hope your party tonight is wonderful!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd the bed is simply gorgeous!!!
Here's an Irish toast for you tonight:
May you be in heaven a half hour before the devil knows you're dead!
LOL
HAPPY ST PAT'S DAY! Hope your party is a success. Take lots of pics.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, that bed is finally finished. You did a great job on the frame. If only I had your patience!
What an absolutely gorgeous photo for the header-so glad you will share more with us. It gives me hope that spring will arrive soon here in Maine. And the bed, simply beautiful. You two did a great job and must have alot of patience! Great job. Your gathering sounds like it will be fun, especially since Art has not seen his buddies since college, alot of catching up to do. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteWOW..the header is beautiful..Love the idea of the pot-luck..I hope you all have a good time..and the bed is almost done...
ReplyDeleteit looks great but do not fall out of bed...lol
ReplyDeleteHi Kay! I absolutely love the tulips in your new banner. They are just gorgeous. When I was a kid, I ordered tons and tons of tulips from Holland and planted them underneath our plum tree in the back yard. I started with all red, but as the squirrels ate the bulbs in the winter, I added yellow. It was a site I will never forget. This photo of yours is stunning. I can't wait to see more. I truly love tulips. This photo made by day!
ReplyDeleteKay the bed is beautiful. You guys did such a great job!
ReplyDeleteHave fun at your ST Paddy's Day bash. Love parties , take pictures!
Amazing header!!!
ReplyDeleteWonderful bed too.
Aloha, Kay
Hope your party was fun and revealing. How I miss corned beef in the Crockpot.
ReplyDeleteThat's a funny picture of Art caged in by the bed. hehe
Enjoy your hard-won bed.
What a lovely header picture, such beautiful and colourful tulips. It seems very strange to me the number of non-Irish Americans who seem to celebrate St Patrick's Day. Here in the UK it just doesn't happen - I imagine that Irish people may celebrate, but no-one else does. It seems that corned beef is a tradition amongst the Americans - but I've only ever heard of it coming from a tin, and certainly never heard that it is a particularly Irish dish. Have a great evening - and let's hope the leprechauns don't come to join in! The bed's looking terrific, what patience you both have. Weren't you tempted to sew up the bed skirt for yourself on your new machine?
ReplyDeleteKay, your header photos get more amazing every visit: what beautiful colours.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Art for such a beautiful solution to the bed support! I must admit if I knew I'd be getting a bedskirt, I'd have just stuck bricks under there LOL. He did a beautiful job.
I hope your St. Patrick's Day party was a lot of fun! We had a parade in our village and the weather was (for once) perfect and the kids had a wonderful time.
Speaking of kids, isn't Tif a darling to ship for you? My mother-in-law lives in Belfast, so whenever a British company offers cheap prices but won't ship to Ireland (typical), I send it to her house. She doesn't seem to mind, because I bring her grandchildren to visit and her son, and she always has a repair job on something waiting for him. D'oh!
I hope your St. Patrick's Day dinner went well! The bed looks wonderful! I'm surprised you didn't sew up a bedskirt Kay you are so talented! Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteHappy Saint Patty's Day, one day late. I am looking forward to hearing all about your party. How great to get in touch with old college friends. And as for that bed, Art is VERY clever isn't he? Your bed looks super even without the skirt, love your quilt on top and of course will also look forward to the finished picture with the bedskirt on. All that hassle and hard work will be certainly worth it.
ReplyDeleteI love that bed. It is so cool. Great work.
