So we brought the bed outside onto our carport, sanded off the rust dust and started to spray lacquer on it. That's when it started to rain again! What the ....? We had to cover the bed. (When I read the can of lacquer spray later in the evening it said to spray at 50% humidity. Deep and heavy sigh...)
I'm looking outside my window and this is what I see this bright and sunny Sunday morning!

I looked at the bed just now and I see orange dust under the lacquer spray. Arrrrghhhhh! I need to crawl under the blankets again!
Oh, bless you, Kay! I can so feel your frustration and believe me, I'd be feeling the very same! I'll good thoughts for warm, sunny weather and NO MORE red dust!!!
ReplyDeleteArgh!!! Not fun at all!!! Some friends' daughter and family lives in Hawaii and they just got back and were sort of chuckling that the weather was sunnier here in Ohio. Paradise isn't always perfect is it?
ReplyDeleteI love your new bed and I hope the weather breaks soon and you can get your work done.
On one hand, I feel so badly about all this work on you...
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, I'm soooo relieved I'm not the only one who has terrible luck with weather and who reads instructions *after* using something LOL.
We're trying to plan a May birthday party, and I'd like to hold it at our local park. I just KNOW that if I do, it will rain. If I don't, it will be sunny and we'll all be inside wishing we were out.
Anyhow, good luck with the bed!
Oh no!! Arggh! How frustrating for you!
ReplyDeleteOh gosh..that is so frustrating..I wonder how any paint dries well with so much humidity...
ReplyDeleteOh my Kay the weather is really not cooperating with you and Art! I hope you eventually get that bed sprayed and in your room! Good Luck!
ReplyDeletejust hang in there, someday it will look lovely-just like you want it too. patience...
ReplyDeleteRemember to show the bed when it is finished.
ReplyDeleteI also learned the hard way long ago that lacquer is most forgiving of what humans expect to use it for. The nice thing is that those 'missed' bits cover over so well with a second coat that almost always blends perfectly;)
ReplyDeleteOh Kay, how disheartening for you. You must be feeling like giving up and putting the darn thing up for sale again! Don't let it beat you, it will look so lovely once you triumph over the bed and the weather.
ReplyDeleteI nominated you for the Sisterhood Award, check out my blog to pick it up!
ReplyDeleteYou are my sister friend for always!
But just think of the story you'll have to tell everytime someone sees the bed and comments on it... you'll be all like, "OMG, funny story, ..."
ReplyDeleteIt'll be beautiful and exactly like you want it eventually. I hope you don't maim anyone before that happens!
Hope the project is all done and over with now and you have many peaceful nights of sleep. Love the header photo.
ReplyDeleteOh Kay I bet the bed has that rustic charm, all antiquey. I dislike things that are too perfect and like a few character flaws. Its true I am not just trying to make you feel better. As for instructions - I never read them and do come unstuck as a result at times...
ReplyDeleteLooks like you boght yourself more work than you anticipated. But then you will really appreciate the final product.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, what a bummer. But how good is that going to look when it is finished? Just gorgeous I am sure. Looking forward to seeing that finished photo.
ReplyDeleteWhat a story! I'd be swearing a little bit, I think!
ReplyDeleteI can only hope that someday in the not too distant future... you and Art will be laughing at this whole experience as much as I am.
ReplyDeleteI laugh because I relate so completely to your story. It would appear that many of your fans relate as well.
Please be sure to post a picture of the finished product when you finally find the perfect day to complete your project.
Love your beuatiful rainbow capture, Kay. The weather is a crazy thing, eh?
