What's In My Back Pack?

I was visiting Peggy of Meggie's Musings and saw this meme. I figure.... Hey, why not?

Here are the rules of the meme.

1.Post a picture of whatever bag you are carrying as of late. No you can't go into your closet and pull out your favorite purse. We want to know what you carried today or the last time you left the house.
2.List how much it cost. And this is not to judge. This is for entertainment purposes only. So spill it. And if there is a story to go along with how you obtained it,we'd love to hear it.
3. Tag some chicks and link to this page so people know why the heck you're showing everyone your bag or just tag yourself!

#1 Here's the only bag I carry now for everyday and for trips:

#2 I bought my very lightweight (good for travel) synthetic bag at the Samsonite Outlet store in Kenosha. Wisconsin. They were having this knock your socks of sale where I could buy the bag for (ARRRGGHHHH! I can't remember!) maybe $20.00, and get the 2nd one for 1 cents. So I've got two of these bags. The nice thing is there's a small pocket in front for my calendar, notebook, mints, pen, and tissues but the opening for the bag is really next to my back on the other side so that it makes it a bit more tricky for a thief to get into when it's on my back.

#3 I won't tag anybody but if anybody would like to have fun with this please go ahead.

Explanation of my contents:
1. nylon reusable shopping bags
2. calendar with photo of my family
3. hand wipes
4. coupon/gift card holder
5. purse
6. all kinds of cards (library, etc.)
7. camera
8. purse hook so I don't have to leave my bag on the floor at restaurants
9. cloth pencil case made for me by my crafty friend, Mavis
10. keys
11. folding scissors
12. mini flashlight
13. glasses
14. special wipes for glasses and camera lens
15. notebook
16. mints
17. medicine sack (aspirin, Purell hand wash, band-aids, safety pins, chapstick)
18. safe check writing pen, highlighter, thin point Sharpie
19. measuring tape
20. I don't have a picture of it but I do carry my cellphone.

And there you have it. You might see why I don't change bags all the time.

  1. What do you NEED all that junk for?

As a mere male, I just carry the following on my person:-
Purse,Keys,Camera-phone,glasses (on my nose). Don't need the rest!

  2. Interesting, Kay! But do the airlines allow you to carry scissors on board?

  3. What no make-up or even a lip balm!!

Yours is definitely more of a survival purse than mine, with the flashlight, scissors, meds etc.

    I think I'll do this too - it's fun

  4. Golly gosh, do you really carry that lot around with you all the time? I have two bag selections - one for just going out shopping, another for going out for the day. Perhaps I'll join in and show a photograph - but I'm so impressed with yours. How did you manage to get the numbers onto the different articles?

  5. Geez Kay, you think of every thing. You think like a mother.
How come guys never need all this?

  6. You put my purse to shame! My purse contains a book, keys, wallet, checkbook, datebook, lip balm, sewing kit, tissues...and alot of unnecessary stuff. My husband laughs as he slips his wallet into his pocket and he is good to go.

  7. interesting but doesn't it get a little heavy? my purse has wallet, planner, makeup, pills, comb, mints, pen, kleenex and today a bunch of batteries and a watch bank to return to kmart. I don't take my camera with me except for special occasions and I left my cell phone home as I attended a computer class and would have had to turn it off. Most of the things I carry around I couldn't do without for very long.

  8. I must say, most of your "junk" is really pretty practical.

I rarely carry a bag of any kind. Pickets are a must. I use a cane, and a bag just gets in the way. But even before the cane, I never liked to carry a purse.

  9. Wow Kay you are well planned and very well organised. I think it a gret idea for travelling etc. I like the idea of the purse hook too, I have never seen one of those yet. Must go looking. I carry phone, diary, wallet, perfume, makeup bag, bandaids, sunglasses, lots of different cards, some jewellery, coins, pens, passport, and that is about it.

  10. Oh goodness, Kay - you look more neurotic than me by the contents of your "purse". You have all the essentials and then some. How did you get those numbers on your photo? That is very cool. I need to carry safety pins. You do never know when you may need one. And a flashlight - that is another good idea. Thanks for sharing. This was fun!!

  11. My practical bag would get along well with yours.
    Maybe I'll post it, too.

  12. Eunoia: A male, eh? If you have to ask, you wouldn't understand. Sigh... Nice to meet you! Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment.

Gigi: They do allow short scissors. There is some kind of blade limit but I don't know what it is. So far that is...

Amanda: I used the Photo Shop program just for fun to get the numbers on the photo.

And yes, I do carry all that around with me. It's really not all that heavy actually. I can use the extra weight bearing exercise for my osteoporosis.

Sarah: I carry Chapstick with me which is the same as lip balm.

Dina: I know Art doesn't need it because he just asks me for whatever he needs.

Cheryl: My husband was the "Be Prepared" Eagle Scout but I've got the stuff to keep him that way.

Lin: Your planner, make up and batteries (especially) would be heavier than what I carry. :-)

Bobbie: I can't say I like carrying the bag. I'd feel naked without it though.

Lilly: Don't get that purse hook. I've learned that tables often have rounded corners or whatever in which case I can't use the little hook. Then again, I do use it when I can JUST because I have it. But I can sure do without it.

Joyce: I used Photo Shop for the numbers. Neurotic? My daughter said I was more Anal than her when she saw the picture. I wonder what my son will say. I didn't even know I had those safety pins. Must have been from my teaching days.

Linda: I'll be checking your site to see what you're carrying. I'm curious. :-)

  13. Kay;

Great backpack...looks very similar to the one that Julie lifted from my closet. I liked the backpack idea cause when I do use my crutches I can't carry a purse. I'll have to get Jim to drive me up to Kenosha when the snow stops...can't beat the price.

  14. Very neat, Kay. I'd hate to have to empty my purse for any reason in front of strangers...think I'll clean it out tomorrow, just in case.

  15. Peggy: It's no longer at Kenosha so please don't make the long drive. I bought the bag quite a long while ago. If I ever see it, I'll let you know.

dellgirl: I'm not all that neat actually. This did give me an opportunity to take out a "few" things I didn't need anymore.

  16. Your comment answers are just as much fun as the post.

  17. Kay: OH noooo... Dina....
    Pressure....

  18. I responded to a challenge and emptied my purse on my blog back on October 15. Now I have a different purse, but still carry most of the same stuff. I purposefully try to get a purse that is not too large so I won't be tempted to carry more than I need, and I have a small one that I take when I travel and pare down to essentials.

You are one very prepared lady.

  19. Jo: Actually, my backpack is quite tiny. I like it that way so I can't fit TOOOO much into it...

I do have to say I have one more thing I put in my purse. It's my MP3 player. :-)

  20. I love this. Always fun to see what other people carry in their bags - keeps me in touch with my nose side I guess - ha! Going to have to do this myself one of these days.

  21. Wow! You are prepared for anything!!Probably all of the traveling that you have done has helped you decide what's important to have with you. You should write a book!!
