This and That and Tornadoes, too!

Ironically, after only a couple of days, my son-in-law happened to have a computer job assignment on the island of Maui. He had a connecting flight through Honolulu so we were able to grab a leisurely lunch at Sam Sneads with him before he met his partner and continued on to Maui. He'll be back on Oahu on Saturday and we'll see him again for dinner. This is his colleague's first time in Hawaii so it'll be even more special.

When we returned home, my mother said a tornado had touched down in Kapolei. A tornado? I could hardly believe her. There were NEVER tornadoes when I was growing up. I thought that was a Midwest thing. Well... not that I doubted her but here's what I found on the Honolulu Advertiser website. Sheesh!

KAPOLEI — A tornado that stretched several hundred feet into the air touched down and ripped through a section of the Kapolei Golf Course yesterday afternoon, sending a course employee to the hospital and damaging the facility.

I'm still jet lagged. I get tired every night when I usually do my blogging and fall asleep before I can get very far. Sigh.

KC NEWS: Remember how she refused to call me Grandma? We tried everything but she wouldn't do it. The day after we left, Tif was on webcam with our son, Jon and KC pointed to a photo of me and said, "Grandma." How did she know I was really getting pretty partial to Gobby. I started to actually like the original sound of it. Now she won't call me "Gobby." Art is still "Papa." She's only two years old but I swear she's getting the best of me.

  2. Grandma...how cute

Nice to see a picture of Ed and you. Wish Tif could have been there too.
The weather around the world has been strange this year. I never thought a tornado would touch down on an Island. Thought they needed land to gain strength..hmmm Didn't you also have an earth quake this year?
Missed you on -line...! I can understand why you might have been tired!

Oh a tornado, the world's weather has gone crazy, totally crazy.
Oh well Gobby, I think you may get used to Grandma after all. I bet she misses you as you do her.

  9. Had to chuckle over the "grandma" comment. I guess KC is trying to out-smart her grandmother. How cute she is. How nice to have your SIL visit, although briefly. Glad you weren't affected by the tornado, what an unbelievable sight that is!

  10. That's cute Kay about KC and Grandma. I had a similar thing with my son and 'mommy'. I swear, that twinkle in the eye is still there after all these years. So nice you got to see your SIL and I too am happy the tornado was no worse than it was. What a bizarre sight that must have been, totally out of place in beautiful Hawaii.

  11. I know it'll take a little time to get reajusted to the jet lag, but how nice to have your son-in-law be able to visit a bit. Really funny about KC! Hope the tornados don't decide Hawaii would be a great place to visit in the future!
    Enjoy!

  12. I love the photo of you two! Congratulations on becoming "Grandma" (you'll always have 'Gobby' lol)

And I'm glad you survived the tornado--we had one too, and couldn't believe it, it uprooted trees and stripped houses in our neighbourhood of siding and shingles. Yikes!

  13. It goes on and on. Just when you discover something charming or get used to her saying things a certain way, she'll change. Go with the flow and enjoy it all.

  14. Hi Grandma. KC, bless her heart!

Tornado, that's bad news. When living in Arkansas I used to HATE tornado warnings.
Wishing you safety from the changing elements.

  15. Wow, a tornado. How lucky that it was in the open area of a golf course. Salt Lake City had a tornado a few years ago and we were always told they didn't form in the mountains either. Can't predict mother nature I guess.

I think KC is playing with you. Enjoy every minute.

Was Jon in Illinois? Doesn't he live in New Mexico?

  16. Jo: Actually Tif and KC were talking to Jon on webcam. Jon is still in New Mexico.

Peggy: Yes, we had a rather substantial earthquake a couple of years ago. We were here for that also! Fuuuuun....

Bobbie: You know... children really are a puzzple. You'd think that being a retired teacher, I could understand what's going on but she surprises me all the time.

  18. Ohmygosh ... that's scary! I've seen some waterspouts off the California coast on the news lately but haven't seen them first hand. Strange weather all over lately.
    Hugs and blessings,
