This photo was taken in August of last year when Tiffany and KC were visiting. We took a trip to Kualoa Beach Park and watched the power of the waves. KC was terrified of the sand. Every time we put her down to walk on the sand, she screamed. Being a Chicago city baby, she was only used to the firm support of a concrete sidewalk.

What a lovely photo---and such a cute story! I wouldn't have thought of it, but I suppose it must feel that the ground's falling out from under her.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, I wish we had such blue skies: Kualoa Beach Park looks beautiful.

Summer in Hawaii. Sounds wonderful. Isn't the weather warm there now too?

Don't worry. KC will get over her fear of the sand.
ReplyDeleteThe warmth of the blue sky and the beach are comforting right now.
Has KC ever felt grass underfoot or mud oozing thru her toes? Ah, the joy of attending school barefoot in Manoa...
ReplyDeleteGreat beach photo..was the sea too rough for swimming?
ReplyDeleteNeither of my children liked walking on sand when they were little..

I so love the ocean. Very beautiful picture. I remember taking my babies to the beach for the first time, they squealed with delight.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty beach, even though you can't swim there. Is that sign always there, or just at certain times?
ReplyDeleteSome of you asked about the 'No Swimming' sign. Signs to warn against swimming at the beach are put up for lots of reasons:
ReplyDeleteThe waves are too rough or too high.
There's an undertow.
Sharks!
Jellyfish! (Yuck! My daughter got stung by a nasty one once.)
Contaminated water from sewer run off.
The signs come down when the danger has passed.
Gigi asked about KC and grass. Well... she's sort of OK with grass. I had to really work with her on that when she was in Hawaii. I don't quite know how comfortable she is now. It'll be better when they move into the suburbs someday.
Ooops! Forgot to answer EG Tour Guide's question about Hawaii being warm.
ReplyDeleteOh yes! It's warm. Here where we live it's around 75 degrees during the day. I usually wear t-shirts and shorts. This is my favorite time of year. The summers are waaaay too hot for me. It gets into the high 80's.
Wow! I can feel the warmth of that sunshine and sand. What a great shot.

ReplyDeleteLovely photo - looks very much like our skys and beaches in South Australia. My niece who didn't want to have a big wedding went to Hawaii to me married and said it was just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo and interesting story. The beach and ocean really are very big powerful things and intesting that the little one picked up on the power. Thanks for sharing with us all and your kind comments on my blog earlier.
ReplyDeleteSea and sky belong together. Thanks for skywatching with us.
ReplyDeleteWhen my daughter was that age, she didn't like wet grass. Kids!
ReplyDeleteYour picture has one of the many fabulous skies of SkyWatch.
It's so fun checking out blogs. You and your husband look terrific. We travel a lot too, and I admit sometimes I feel fearful before we leave, but once we arrive I totally enjoying being immersed in a brand new culture.
Hawaiian beaches are so lovely and the skies are beautiful too. Walking on sand can be a challenge for toddlers until they've had some experience.
ReplyDeleteMy skies are clear and sunny at Happily Retired Gal and Sacred Ruminations Friday. TODAY the Santa Ana WINDS are gusting mightily!
