Ecobags

Here's an ecobag I was introduced to by my nephew, Barry's wife who gave it to me as a gift. I chained it to my backpack and used it all the time.

It worked so well that when I went to Japan, I was thrilled to get another one from my cousin. I bought one for my daughter, but she carries hers inside her handbag. Anytime I make a purchase, I just whip out my little bag. It's made of some kind of colorful polyester or nylon fabric that folds up very tiny and is quite strong. I feel a whole lot better now that I don't end up with loads of little bags that I feel guilty adding to the landfills.
P.S. My daughter, Tiffany just told me that she's seen these thin ecobags sort of like mine at Whole Foods and that those bags roll up into a covenient ball. AND she says Target has a different kind also but is another one that folds up tiny.

2nd P.S. Tif just came back from Whole Foods and Targets which is just around the corner from her condo and she said that the Whole Foods bag is $8.20 and the fabric looks thin like mine. The Target bag is 99 cents and folds up to the size of an envelope but is a different sort of thin fabric... not quite as thin as the ones from Japan.

  1. Kay, what neat little bags! I've never seen them before. Glad you got some more!

  2. Wow, yours are so beautiful. I have one that was given to me as a charity promotion, but it's just plain blue. Still it's very handy: amazing how such a big bag and squish into its tiny one!

  4. Lin: I won't be in Hawaii until February 8th. Our trip is about half over and there is still so much to do and so many people we need to see.

  5. I need to get one of those little bags. I've seen them at Target. I have several bags, but of course I never have them with me when I'm shopping. So one that folds up in my handbag will be just the ticket.

  6. I want some too. I've never seen those before, but I'll look for them now. I've resisted buying the bags the grocery stores sell because they are small but bulky and always have the stores' names on them. Yours are much better!

    Thanks for sharing.

  7. Excellent. I didn't even know they existed!

My comments have not been showing up on your blog lately??? I just looked to catch up on any responses, and they aren't there. I know I told you that I didn't have any real opinions on the car except that the one in the photo is adorable!! lol

  8. Sounds like a great idea, folding up so small. I do use canvas bags for food shopping all the time, but they don't fold like that.

  9. I use canvas bags for shopping, and always carry a linen bag in my handbag, but your foldaways look really neat and easy to stow away.

  10. Everybody: I tried using those bigger recycling bags that they sell for a dollar everywhere but they really are pretty bulky for carrying around. I love the fact that I always have my bags with me and they're so light and compact. Tif thinks the Whole Foods bag is a bit better than Target's. I'll have to take a look next time I go there.

  11. I love your bags! Wish I could find some here! I do have one that folds up really small that I can carry in my purse, but it's also just ugly, plain black from Safeway. I have three more that I keep in the car. I try never to add to the landfills either. Thanks for a fun post, as always. Hope you're having a good visit.

  12. This sounds like a great idea, to carry with you at all times. We have gotten into the habit now of always taking our own bags to the grocery store and never have to use the store's plastic ones anymore. Also, Happy Sky Watch Friday!

  13. Kay, at first I did not understand your post. I thought the large, colorful bag on the left was WRAPPING PAPER. Then I realized that it is the larger version of the tiny bag chained to your backpack. I'll have to look for it the next time I am at Whole Foods in Kahala. Thanks for the tip.

  14. I haven't see the little fold up bags either. I use the reusable grocery bags when I shop for groceries, but hadn't considered carrying a little bag for odds and ends at other stores.

  15. Oh, Kay. Your bags are so cute, I love them! Sounds like you're having a good time using yours. Jordyn bought us some a few days ago and I have not used mine yet. They are not as cute and colorful as yours though.

  17. I love the Target bags (99 cents and a great deal)as they fold down to a small size. They are very durable. I have used cloth bags for several years but I don't now how many times have I gotten into the store and remembered the bags are out in the car! Some stores are now posting signs on the doors "did you remember your bags" which I think is great. Your bag is so pretty and I love the small size to carry anywhere.

  18. Good name, new to me, Ecobag.
You go home on Feb. 8? Hey, that's my return date too. But my two flights are 31 hours total. Happy landings to us all.

  20. Great bags. I have trouble remembering them and wind up with too many plastic bags. I will try to be better. Thanks for the heads up!

  21. Now they are classy Kay and far nicer looking than the ones you get for the supermarket too. I have seen them here but didn't realise they looked so good when opened up fully. I am going to get myself one. They would make great gifts too!

  22. Hi Kay! I don't have these bags, but I like that they fold up so small. I have canvas bags and canvas bags I bought from the grocery store that I use all the time. Our grocery store gives us 5 cents off for every canvas bag we use. Nice way to save a little bit of money and less bags in the landfill. Lisa

  24. Kay;

I love my ecobag...it folds up in a little ball, and I keep it in my purse and use it when I'm going through any store. I put what I want to purchase in the bag and when I get to the checkout I just hand the bag to the cashier and he/she rings up my purchases and puts them back in my bag and off I go on my scooter...

  26. I love my ecobags, but none are quite so attractive as yours. They ARE however quite functional.
    Hugs and blessings,
