This is a photo of my neighbor's house. Their snowman's hat shows some of the snow we've accumulated.

Here's Tif and KC making a dash for the car to drive VERY SLOWLY into Chicago to stay for just one night at KC's place before returning to the suburbs. The very nice part is that we've got high speed Internet again and I can post a photo or two while we're here.
I'm slowly getting acclimated to the cold. We've got a couple of days of freezing below zero temperatures coming up. Can you believe it? Well.... yeah.... it is January in Chicago. Tiffany is so happy to have her dad take over the snow shoveling.
We're kind of rethinking visiting next time in fall or spring or even summer... but winter? Hmmmmm....
You used to think this kind of weather was normal for January!
ReplyDeleteIf you return in fall, you can watch the leaves change into their brilliant colors.
I'll bet you got a great big G'ma hug! As well as a Mom hug, too. Have a wonderful time.
Welcome to life on the mainland (again), Kay! I'm not looking forward to the very cold temps predicted for Maine starting tomorrow. I guess you're getting them in Chicago right now.
ReplyDeleteYou are certainly an expert traveler, Kay! You sure do get around!! The Chicago weather will certainly assure you of the beauty of the weather in Hawaii, but it is probably nice to have a change of pace every so often. Enjoy your time with your family!! I'm anxious to hear about all the wonderful memories you will take with you.
ReplyDeleteJust think how much you will enjoy your Hawaii home when you return. It is unfortunate that your visit coincides with unusually frigid weather. It won't, I'm sure hamper your fun with the kids.
ReplyDeleteI was a little confused. KC's place in Chicago?
Mare: We're going to try coming back in a more temperate season next time. This was rather a shock to the system.
ReplyDeleteJean: I sure hope it warms up a bit before it gets to you. I wonder what the inauguration will be like.
Joyce: We're kind of remembering walking outside in just our short last week.
Jo: We do have amazing luck. We buy stocks high and sell them low, we come to Chicago at one of the coldest times of the year. We are still enjoying our time here, though.
Sorry about the confusion about KC's home. KC and her parents live in a very lovely condo in Chicago. They are trying to sell the condo and move into our house in the burbs. Until they can do that, they're moving back and forth to both places. Meanwhile, Art and I are also maintaining two places, the one here and our home in Hawaii. Again, there's our luck.... being stuck between two places. Hopefully, the economy will improve.
Kay when I first saw the photo I thought my goodness, snow in Hawaii - what is happening with the weather! I forgot you were away. Wow that is some snow. Gret pictures. Hope you have lots of fun though!!
ReplyDeleteare you ever going to appreciate your home in hawaii when you get back-no snow shoveling for one and wonderful fruits. today at breakfast, my husband said I wish we had a papaya to eat. They were great in hawaii. enjoy your cooold vacation.
ReplyDeleteWell... if you're going to be in Chicago during the dead of winter... the best way to do it is as a visitor.
ReplyDeleteI'd have a tough time trading in my flip flops for snow boots! But, the upside is all the time you get playing with the kiddies. That makes chilly temperatures bearable.
Enjoy your visit! I'm crossing my fingers for you that the economy will get the bump up that we're all hoping for.
Wow, that's a lot of snow. Beautiful, but hard to drive on.
ReplyDeleteTake care.
Brr...the photos made me feel chilly, and I live in Maine! We are having zero and below temps now. But I have learned to appreciate the other seasons more! Have a wonderful time.
ReplyDeleteI know it's been hard adjusting to the weather, but I know it's wonderful to be near your kids again! The snow is beautiful -- if you don't have to get out in it too much. Glad you're having a good time!
ReplyDeleteLilly: I know what you mean. I'm getting used to this but I still occasionally feel a bit disoriented.
ReplyDeleteLin: Do you know we have papaya for breakfast every morning in Hawaii? I do rather miss it but seeing KC's smile brightens our morning even more.
Caryn: I've gotten acclimated faster than I thought. I wish I'd kept more winter clothes here but luckily, my daughter and I are the same size.
Dina: Driving is definitely tricky. Art is letting Tif drive for now but we'll have some heavy driving later to do.
Cheryl and Ashton, I know just what you mean. I love the different, fascinating seasons. Each has their own magical personality and they make you appreciate the others even more.
Sylvia: The snow is indeed absolutely beautiful. You have to just stand outside in all that white with the feathery flakes floating about you to make you know we live in a wondrous place.
Every time I hear about the weather in Chicago, I think of you and the thermal shock you must have experienced! Hopefully the weather won't spoil your fun.
ReplyDeleteLinda: I do believe I'm getting used to it. But then again, I haven't done any shoveling yet. :-)
ReplyDeleteKay
ReplyDeleteI missed you and your posts! I hope that you are having a great time with Tif and KC!
Here I am complaining about the cold and the forever snow and you and Art must be almost frozen!
I think a Fall or Spring fling in the big city of Chicago would be great too! Anytime you come is a gift!
Peggy: We're all planning to come see you guys. We'll wait until KC is 100% recovered however.
ReplyDeleteOhmygosh it looks so COLD there!!! I hope you're enjoying your visit and staying warm too ;--)
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings,
