When we first got off the airplane KC greeted us with a lot of baby gibberish of which I understood "Poppa" for Grandpa and "Gobby" for Grandma. I told my daughter, Tiffany this morning that it's amazing how much vocabulary KC had picked up in just one week.
Well...that's not true, of course. It's just that Art and I can now understand more of her language.
ma no is no more
daggie is daddy
mo kutiki pee is More cottage cheese please
bebi kawa hewa is I'm going to color here.
ba pee is Please turn on my sheep music so I can go to sleep.
choo choo is train
ninyo is noodles
baby serel eat is I'm going to eat cereal.
COOKIE is cookie
I'm now babysitting while Art is out with his work buddies and Tif and Ed are out shopping. KC is napping while I make the most of my highspeed connection. I expect she'll wake up in a few minutes. (The neighbor in the condo next to us is having carpeting installed.) There's no way I can do anything on the computer while she's awake because she loves to see her Flickr photos and will impatiently take control of the keys very effectively. So she is a genius after all!
Oh, I just love when kids start talking and you pick up on their new words. :)
ReplyDeleteI do remember! I had to learn a whole new language, too, four times! because they all had their own!
ReplyDeleteSylvia: What? You mean I have to learn another language again? It's hard when she keeps repeating her sentence over and over and gets frustrated at how not so smart her Gobby is.
ReplyDeletelol... what a fun read! You could teach classes on this new language you're learning. You explained it all very nicely. Well, except that it appears no two little tykes seem to speak the same dialect of baby gibberish.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, how wonderfully sweet! When I read her words aloud I can hear the translation clear as a bell LOL
ReplyDeleteOur baby calls the dog Sit (it's what everyone else says to him) and when someone sneezes she says Essoo for 'bless you', but so far that's it; I love this age. Have fun talking with KC when she gets up, and I hope you have fun babysitting!
Sounds like she (and you) is doing very well with her speech.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried Baby Sign Language? It makes life so much easier when they can also show you what they need even when they can't make themselves understood verbally. It's just very basic signs, and they learn them very quickly.
Wow, I'm so behind in blogging I didn't know about your trip. It's so nice to see you with the baby, and I can see why you were teased about the timing. It is nice that when you visit that you can see all your old friends and neighbors at the same time. 50 Degrees below Zero, burrr.
ReplyDeleteKay;
ReplyDeleteHaving a grandchild is hopefully in my future. It sure is great when I can share in the joy with friends that already have some!
Thanks Gobby for sharing!
so you are learning to speak or rather understand childease...the language of your grand dg. sounds fun...enjoy each moment.
ReplyDeleteSo sweet! I love everything about babies.
ReplyDeleteNo doubt a bit of both! How wonderful that you have this time to spend together.
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings,
How much delight and joy you must be experiencing being with cute KC. And how quickly you have picked up her "language". It must certainly bring back sweet memories of your daughter at that age.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are enjoying your granddaughter! Atleast her language is something that can be figured out. My niece and nephew when they were little kept us wondering what they were saying! Enjoy the visit!
ReplyDeleteI just want to drive there and hug that dear, dear little one. I don't know how you will bear to leave, Kay.
ReplyDeleteYou are a great translator, Kay! That's amazing. I wonder how many of those special words will survive into childhood and adulthood. We have a few here--poosham for shampoo and geegee for blanket.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind comment on my blog. I am blessed to have the benefit of your wisdom, insight, and warm-heartedness.
I think most people underestimate what children understand; we're just sometimes a bit slow to catch on. Sounds like you're doing just fine. Enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're enjoying KC!!!! What a little darling she is!!!
ReplyDeleteOur granddaughter is much easier for me to understand now that she is nearing four years old. But she has always liked to talk on the phone and for a long time I would have to depend on Jill for the translation. It was very funny for us but maybe not for Irene, who wanted us to get it. It was always much easier when we got to be with her, especially for a longer period of time. I loved watching her communicate.
ReplyDeleteNow you are experiencing that, too. Wonderful!
cute post!
ReplyDeleteAloha, Kay
That's another photograph to treasure. It always amazes me how quickly small children learn - and how slowly once they get to school!! Our elder son was very vocal and used to talk in 'scribble' all the time - very frustrating for all of us as we had no idea what he was talking about, but it was definitely in sentences.
ReplyDeleteWell of course she is a genius! What did you expect? :D
ReplyDeleteI so love the language translation, and lesson! I have a little granddaughter who is just learning to talk too and I can totally understand and appreciate your delight in this wonderful, fascinating period of development.
ReplyDeleteHow adorable Kay. Of course she is a genius and she is totally gorgeous too!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat translation, Kay. I don't know if I could do it. It's amazing how quickly they learn. I always say they are like little 'sponges', able to soak up anything they're interested in.
