50 Degrees Below Zero! Are you Kidding Me?

Art called up to me this morning to say I needed to see the outdoor thermometer from the window. It read 17 degrees below zero. It's 6:00 PM now as I write this and I just heard Brian Williams say we registered 50 degrees below zero when you factored in the windchill.

I went to our monthly luncheon of retired lady friends in our little village and they all laughed when they saw me. They jokingly razzed me about the timing of our visit. It was lovely seeing everybody. Our schedule is filling up quickly and suddenly we don't have enough time to see everybody and do all the things we were thinking of doing. Well, it did take us a few days to get over the jet lag and another few days to see KC through her nasty cold. Now we've only got three weeks left! Good gosh!

Tomorrow Art gets to see his E.P.A. buddies and Sunday we'll be attending a party being thrown by my teacher friends. On Tuesday, everything will stop so we can celebrate the inauguration! Woohoo! I hope President Obama can stay warm somehow.

  6. amazing and still people live in all these cooold places. i guess that's good or there would be no room in hawaii for the tourists. I wouldn't mind a trip to hawaii every winter although it was 58 degrees today here...

  7. That windchill can really make the temps feel COLD!!! It 's been cold down here too, but nothing to compare to that.

  8. Oh my word, that's a lot of snow. Did you take enough cold weather clothes with you? Have a great time during the next few weeks. You'll need to keep busy to keep warm.

  9. I'm sure your friends were very glad to see you but wondering if your thinking had gone soft from your "life is a beach", showing up as you did in the worst of deep winter. Your excuse has to be that even where it's always cold it's not usually THAT cold!
I'm so glad you are getting to see old friends.

  10. Next summer when you sit outdoors in the now snow-covered chairs, this scene will be a distant memory! I always tell myself that I will not complain when we have hot, muggy days, especially after a winter like this one.

  11. Amanda: We didn't bring any clothes with us because we left a bunch of clothes here in the attic for every season. Unfortunately, we weren't as organized about what we were leaving so I don't have enough clothes for the parties and get-togethers we're scheduled to go to. Ah well... it's a good thing my daughter and I are the same size.

  12. Linda: Actually there is a story about why we came in January. We were going to come for KC's birthday in December but the airfares were $300.00 MORE a ticket in December rather than January. Therefore, we bought the tickets in July for January. The day before we left I checked flight costs and found that ARRRRGHHHH! The prices were now $450.00+ instead of the $800.00 we paid for this same time period. ARRRGHHH!

  14. It is crazy cold up here and I cannot imagine anyone living in Hawaii would visit here in the winter... you are a very brave woman.

That's probably why I shouldn't go south... I don't know if I'd come back. lol

  15. I can't even imagine temperatures like that. And there are people who's jobs require them to go out in that kind of weather.

I wouldn't even be able to leave animals outside when it's that cold. Now... there's a thought for you. My tiny living room with two dogs, four horses and six chickens in it. uhhhh... I'm thinking I'd have to get them a motel room. joke, joke.

  16. And to think I was freezing at 59 degrees when I got to work the other morning! The snow pictures are gorgeous though! I'd love to see that again!

    Hugs and blessings,

  18. We hit -40F here in the hills & valleys. Kinda neat, as it's also -40C at the same time. Balance!!

Haven't seen it this cold here in awhile. -20F to -35F about 2-10 nights most years. Lower than that gets our attention.

Super photo of 'school in session';)
