I'm seeing quite a few posts about holiday dinners so I thought I'd post what our menu is going to be as far as I know today.
Teriyaki chicken sticks
Teriyaki beef sticks
grilled zucchini marinated in Italian spices
kinpira gobo (burdock in teri sauce)
brown rice
green salad
pickled ogo (ogo is an island seaweed)
mabo tofu (My nephew and his wife will be making that.)
some kind of dessert (My brother and sister-in-law will decide what we'll have.)
Sushi
Macaroni salad (I just added this later because my sister-in-law reminded me that they'll be bringing this also.)
Beverage: Calamansi (sort of a lime) soda, diet Pepsi, Kona coffee, green tea, coffee mocha
Mmmmmm looks so yummy! I know you'll have a grand dinner! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteYour menu is very different from mine, but it sure sounds delicious.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds and looks absolutely delicious. I love trying different foods.
ReplyDeleteYour menu sounds delicious. Enjoy and have a wonderful holiday!
ReplyDeleteHi Kay! My mouth is watering reading your menu. The food looks almost to good to eat. (Did you catch the almost?) Lisa
ReplyDeleteForgive me, Kay, but that just wouldn't do for me. Gotta' be turkey.
ReplyDeleteBut it certainly is very beautiful food, and healthy!
Happy Holidays!
sounds festive, enjoy the holiday in your new home...
ReplyDeleteKay, I have had kinpira gobo before and I was surprised at how good it tasted. Everyone thinks burdock is awful, but it really isn't! Enjoy your Christmas dinner!
ReplyDeleteJust goes to prove: you can take the girl out of the islands (for years) but you can't take the island (food) out of the girl. aloha, Kay!
ReplyDeleteYum...looks like the party we just threw with the sushi caterer. Yummmmmy
ReplyDeleteCan I come over for Christmas dinner? Especially if you have sushi. I am so there!
ReplyDeleteOh Kay and Art, I'll never forget the taste of your teriyaki skewers on the grill!
ReplyDeleteLove the names on your menu, exotic sounding. Have a great time together.
Wow, about the only things I recognise on there are nrown rice and green salad! It sounds yummy. I think I'd prefer your Christmas dinner to ours, but tradition is tradition, and the family would think I'd gone mad if I didn't stick to it. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteKay, your menu brings back memories of our family get-togethers. My auntie would prepare the traditional turkey and stuffing but we always had sushi, fried wonton and sashimi as side dishes. Yum! I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteOh Kay, that sounds like my kind of meal. I would like to try the picked ogo - it sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteI hope you and your husband and family have a wonderful festive season. May there be lots of good times and lots of fun and laughs coming your way.
I guess it will be warm for you too!
Take Care.
I've just been catching up on your blog (I've been way behind on everyones) and I must say your menu looks wonderful. Your food doesn't just sound tasty, but it looks good enough to make me want some even though it is breakfast time. Your story about Dr. Maffei was very touching, and the picture of the bee was so funny. I could almost see him warning you to back up. Your house is going to be beautiful. The parts that are done look wonderful, and I can sympathise with all the problems you are having with your special orders. It seems things shouldn't be so hard, but it seems to be fairly usual. The reference to the two ladies blog was very interesting and very thought provoking. It was good catching up.
ReplyDeleteKay;
ReplyDeleteYour spread looks so professional and delicious! I am trying to eat an a much healthier diet free of additives...it's going ok but I do miss some of the goodies. Your dinner looks like it would fit my new diet!
Happy Holidays to you and Art and a big hug to all!
And don't forget the macaroni salad... no local meal is complete without the macaroni salad. 8^)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the meal and the time spent with great family company!!
mmm...
ReplyDeleteI love sushi! Where can I buy fresh sushi on Xmas Day for my party?
Inquiring minds want to know!
Gigihawaii: We've just ordered our sushi family platter at the Sushi-Man at Pearl Highlands Mall Food Court above Sam's Club. We've never had it there before but the little plastic models look good.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip, Kay!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a blessed and very Merry Christmas! ♥ Hugs :) Shauna
ReplyDeleteMy daughter would be there in a heartbeat! She loves all these foods. Me, just a brown rice girl, but I'll still come. :<)
ReplyDeleteA different menu but sounds delicious. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks and sounds delicious!
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings,
Wow, that spread is almost to beautiful to eat! It reminds me of the fun I had with a friend from South Korea who liked to feed me because I was helping her edit some writing. We made vegetarian sushi one day. I also remember the day she was trying to teach me to eat with chopsticks, and there were several bowls with shredded things in them. After eating a few bites of one, all of a sudden I noticed, and proclaimed, "They have eyes!" It was some kind of fish. I politely ate a few more bites of it.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry for making my comment so long, but I really miss my friend. Her visa expired, and she had to go back home. She recently emailed me to let me know she is back in the country, but not in Nebraska. Hopefully, I'll get to see her while she's in the country.
Merry Christmas!
Sue
