Beeing Careful

I was out in our small garden when I saw this golden bumble bee sitting on my basil bush. I tried to get a close up from far away but my camera would not cooperate.

So I went a little closer with my macro lens. I was almost right up to it. (If you click on the photos, you can enlarge it even more.)

And then YIKES! It turned and seemed to sit on its haunches and stared at me as though to say, "Watch it! You're infringing on my personal space." Let me tell you I backed up plenty fast!

  1. Good Lord, that's a huge bee! Kay, PLEASE, do not sacrifice your safety even for the sake of photography. I would have been running/swimming over to the next island just from seeing the bee from afar.

  3. I read recently bees are becoming endangered, so you must have a wonderful garden if you have bees in it.

He's gorgeous, but bees terrify me: congratulations on a great photo and I'm very glad you were left unstung.

  22. What a beautiful sunny blog to visit from the depths of the Scottish winter. I'm interested to see your basil still going strong - mine was blackened by the first frosts ages ago.
The golden bumble bee is rather wonderful!
    Thanks for visiting my blog.

  23. That's the queen Bee. Or so that's what my dad told me. We have a couple colonies here. They fly around my dad while he's working around the house and when he gets too close to their house, they just bump him, as if to tell him to move.
