Almost 20 years ago, this was my class at Halloween in Illinois. I wonder where those kids are...
I'm also wondering where those present day Trick or Treaters are. A few years ago I'd have to buy 8 or 9 bags of candy. I bought 6 bags this year but I'm not seeing any kids. It's 6:30 PM. My mother says Trick or Treaters in Hawaii come after 6:00 here in Hawaii.
In Illinois they came after school. We would have fun tallying how many children we'd get coming to our house. My daughter tells me that even with Indian Summer weather, there were very few children there. I hope I don't end up with 6 bags of candy. Sheesh!
Where are they? Did you get a lot of Trick or Treaters?
MUCH LATER:
Oh nuts! I have to take it all back. The kids just came later here in Hawaii. We had about 50 kids. I'm glad they're still enjoying the fun evening. Hmmmm... I still have 2 BIG bags left though...
And I shouldn't have but I did have a Baby Ruth. :-)
Aaaah, such a cute picture, the kids are adorable. Brings back some really good memories. I hope you enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteAh, the pictures remind me of my classes -- way back when! I often wonder what has happened to all those kids that I taught over the years. There's not much Trick or Treating here as most parents seem to arrange Halloween parties to keep the kids off the streets where they might run into undesisrable people. What a sad commentary on our society these days! Thanks again for the picture!

ReplyDeleteWhere? Don't ask me. We don't have Halloween in Israel.
ReplyDeleteYour photo is cracking me up--Kay as a witch! LOL LOL
And that was before the Harry Potter days.

ReplyDeleteOh For Heavens Sake! Is it because it's Halloween? That's two spammers that got to me! I've just had to put back the word verification and I've just added the Comment Moderation feature. I've never done that before.
ReplyDeleteYour little ones of 20 years ago sure did have the Halloween spirit, Kay!
ReplyDeleteI love this holiday. It is my favorite because people have genuine fun just plain being nice to kids, and kids have fun letting their imaginations run wild.
Our holiday seemed quiet at first. Then it seemed calm as a steady stream of really nice kids came by. I really enjoyed it.
I hope you enjoyed your Baby Ruth. My daughter put two Almond Joys in her treat bag for me, and I was very grateful!
Hi Kay! A belated Happy Halloween to you. I'm coming to your house next year for trick-or-treat night. I had about ten or eleven this year. I had bought four bags of candy. I made up goody bags so I wouldn't be left with so much candy. It was fun though.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that you have been getting spammers again. I used to hate word verification, but I don't mind too much now.
Well have a good day and don't eat to much candy. Lisa
Had to pop back up and tell you, my word verifcation is "mices"
Love the photo, Kay. We have no trick-or-treaters here, because our house is rather remote in the country. It took me years to learn, when we had trick-or-treaters at the old house, NOT to buy candy that I especially liked. If I bought it early, it would be gone before Halloween arrived.
ReplyDeleteThat's a cute class picture. You may still bump into a former student (I did on Thursday); they could be anywhere. And, although they will have grown up and changed a lot, you haven't so they will likely recognize you.
ReplyDeleteI always buy treats that we like too, so if we have leftovers.....
we had no trick or treaters and have a quiet evening as we watched a video the other boleyn, about king henry vii? we live in a retirement community with no solication signs...cute photo of your classroom, 20 years ago. I taught 1st grade in 75-80-that's 30 years ago...wow.
ReplyDeleteWe have never had a trick or treater at the Hollow. We're sort of tucked away, out of sight.
ReplyDeleteSOOOO...Wayne and I got dressed up in our costumes and delivered treats to our friends, neighbors, and a few people we'd never met before. We just kept knocking on doors until all of our candy was gone. It was great fun!!! It took everyone by surprise. Wayne can be such a ham bone that there were a lot of giggles all night.
Very nice, always here...
ReplyDeleteHave a good day !
Kay, it looks like your class was having fun back then! We had about 75 kids this year trick or treating and they started coming here around 6:30 and stopped by 8:15. Not as many creative costumes this year, but the little ones were cute!
ReplyDeleteThis post is too funny. I hope you got to eat more of that candy.
ReplyDeleteOur trick-or-treaters have diminished over the years. I think mostly because the kids in the neighborhood grew up. More have moved in, but they don't know us like the kids my own kids ages were, and we're pretty far off the road.
We ducked out last night anyway, went out to eat.
Enjoyed the photo of you and the students. We don't have trick-or-treaters here as we live several miles from town. Our YMCA throws a huge party for all of the kids in the community. I gave my two nieces Halloween pillowcases that glow in the dark for their "treat" this year, I try to give them something other than candy. I do miss "helping" my kids eat their candy though!
ReplyDeleteAww.... what a cute picture! I love kids that dress up in those adorable costumes!! We live up on the third floor of our apartment so no kids here trick or treating which is a good thing as I'm sure chocolate bars around my husband would not last very long ... =D
ReplyDeleteI just found you via Sylvia's blog and have enjoyed browsing around. Your granddaughter is just gorgeous. I can see why you're smitten with her! I will definitely be back here to visit again and will have to add you to my favorite's page.

What a great photo! I like the Bart Simpson costume. Bart came onto the scene when my son was young.
ReplyDeleteLove this old photo! Be careful what you wish for, wondering where they are now! Three years ago, we joined a new church. On our very first day, I stood to pass the Peace to the woman seated next to me. It was my Fourth Grade teacher - A woman that I feared at age ten, but came to idolize as I had my own children. I found as I raised my girls that I would "channel" her almost daily! To be able to look her in the eye and say "Thank you" after all these years (30!) was one of the most heartwarming moments of my life!
ReplyDeleteOh..cute photo Kay..we only had a few kids here..lots of candy left and it's the kind I like...
ReplyDeleteHi Kay, Has Bart Simpson really been around for 20+ years? I didn't buy any candy because we can't have trick-or-treating in our building. At work though, you would be AMAZED at the amount of trick-or-treaters we had. Most of them were in their teens and older! It's nice to have one night were the weird can feel normal. 8^) And guess what? This will also be the first year that we're open on Thanksgiving!!! Yup, I gotta work, but I'm putting in for the early shift.
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoed your candy Kay!
The rest is yours Nancy, if you can keep it away from Dennis.
ReplyDeleteHi Kay! I'm back. If you have time, please stop by Ramblings. There is something there for you. Lisa
ReplyDeleteYour class picture brings back lots of memories from my teaching days also. We had 130 kids on Halloween night, and like Hawaii, they come after 6 pm!
