Our daughter treated us to carry-out Chinese food tonight so we could celebrate the Olympics in the Chinese spirit. I read Stanley's blog Me and the World about the Olympics and was looking forward to it. I guess you've all seen it already. Are we the last people in the world to see it? Everything Stanley said is true. It is truly spectacular. Even KC kept watching the TV screen during dinner. It fairly boggles your mind how the Chinese put together such an incredible show. How do you coordinate so many people with such precision. Can you imagine what it cost? Wow!
KC is now in bed and we're having fun critiquing the different countries' outfits. I rather liked ours. We especially like seeing the traditional outfits that some countries are wearing. This is going to be a fun two weeks!
Good girl, KC, curious about the world. In just a few years you will probably be blogging. :)
ReplyDeleteKay, a TV screen on the wall? Wow!
I watched much of the Olympics opening on my notebook PC screen.
I dunno, but something about 15,000well-trained people on the stage doing their thing with such precision and discipline, captivating the masses, stirred something in the collective memory and gave me the chills.
Maybe because I grew up during the Cold War in Chicago, where in primary school we had weekly air-raid drills?
Anyway, let's enjoy the games and the Chinese carry-out food!
To be perfectly honest, the soldiers doing the goose-step was a bit unnerving actually...again maybe because of WWII. I hope we can all try to look past the prejudice and use the Games to gain understanding and friendships. Seeing Yao Ming with that adorable, brave little boy made me melt all over.
ReplyDeleteAbout that TV, Dina. Actually, it's our only TV. My mom has one in her area also, but we watch our TV in the kitchen for now. Actually, we put it up too high so we have to crane our necks backward to watch. I know,
ReplyDeleteI know...I won't complain.
Hi Kay!
ReplyDeleteYour "olympic evening" sounds like fun. Why didn't I think of take-out Chinese? Great idea!
I wasn't able to see the opening ceremony, but did see the parade dress online this morning. I thought the US team looked wonderful. And, like you all, enjoyed the traditional costumes.
Have a great weekend! Chris
Kay I blogged about the same thing, what an incredible show that was!
ReplyDeleteI love your new banner, makes me want to come to Hawaii!
Btw I thought I'd better tell you, there was a health report on a CNN show last week about the huge rise in neck complaints from people tilting the heads too far back to watch walls on TV's - seriously! You might need to consider lowering that to a normal level if you can.
Thanks Kay. The parts you refer to must have been in the chunks that I missed seeing. What disturbs me about my reaction was that I had never been aware of such things lurking in my unconscious. Yes, let's root for the true Olympic Spirit now.
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely adorable. It looks like such a nice way to pend an evening!
ReplyDeleteI liked the opening ceremonies too. The people in the boxes creating the wave movement was wild!
The cost of the Olympic opening was probably completely paid for by profits made from sales to Wal-Mart; nearly every item in every store comes from China! Boggles the mind.
ReplyDeleteI hope to watch some of the swimming competition later. I don't swim, at all, but I am fascinated by those who do.
I didn't see any of it..something about the way regular Chinese citizens were treated in getting ready for it bothered me too much to watch it..but I may be very strange..
ReplyDeleteKay,
ReplyDeleteThe Olympics are beautiful, aren't they? And so is Chinese culture.
hi, we enjoyed the show also and the unison of so many people moving together so artfully. amazing...
ReplyDeleteWe may be the last to watch the Opening Ceremonies, since we haven't watched them yet!
ReplyDeleteI do have the Olympics on right now, but we recored the opening, and haven't got to it yet.
