So much for that resolution!
We brought back this poster that we bought for 10 Euros in Amsterdam at the Van Gogh Museum with the idea that we would just put it in a poster frame. We brought it to Picture Plus which is a framing shop here. They were having a custom frame sale. Well.... after getting the spacer so the poster wouldn't touch the glass (Hawaiian humidity) and the custom frame (the poster was in metrics and non standard) and UV glass (Hawaiian sun) we ended up paying over $160.00 for it.
The salesperson said, "Your memories are valuable... and it would have cost $303.00 if you didn't get it on sale..."
On the plus side, the Egyptian papyrus that we bought did cost us more that $12.00 and the frame was smaller and cost more like $70.00.
AND now we've still got Art's tile set that we bought in Turkey and STILL haven't framed. Sigh...
I think we'll wait on that one.
(I've been wanting to visit you all and do some blogging but KC sleeps in my office and between her bedtimes and naptimes and playtimes and us running around on errands I haven't been able to do much blogging. My gracious! I can't even get my Sky Watch up on time. Sigh...)
hey that's all right, we knew where you were and family always takes first priority over blogging friends for all of us. so enjoy and we'll still be here when your company leaves...you need a laptop so you can carry your computer to other areas with wifi...instead of posters framed expensively-that's unreal. oh well, memories...
ReplyDeleteAww...don't worry Kay... it's totally ok!
ReplyDeleteFamily should come first, blogging second! When time allows then you come to the computer... don't worry!!
Take care of yourself and your family first! =)
Good to hear from you - sometimes life just gets in the way of blogging, or sometimes you just don't feel that you have anything much to say (that's me at the moment). Framing is so expensive isn't it? I've just paid £12 to get a mount cut, not even a frame as well.
ReplyDeleteKay... the poster looks wonderful above the stairwell. (I love the colors!) I agree with everyone else, family comes first. Have fun with KC... she is adorable!
ReplyDeleteGive that little granddaughter an extra hug while you have her there!!
ReplyDeleteI did that same kind of framing thing with a poster from Ireland.
The Cliffs of Mohr cost a lot more to frame than buy!!
Kay you know I totally understand about family visits restricting access! As for the frames, if they give you joy to look upon them, then I say go for it
ReplyDeleteKay..we know you have company and everyone understands..Frames are so darn expensive..
ReplyDeleteIt looks wonderful!! My favourite colour-- Phew-- that is steep for framing,, but it would be a shame for it to deteriorate-- so I say it was well worth it--
ReplyDeleteIt didn't even occur to me to move the laptop out of Art's office where it's hard to use because my daughter and her husband are staying there for the next week. I mentioned it to Art and he agreed to move it downstairs where we can have more access to it. So... Yahoo! Thanks for suggesting it, Lin. We do have wireless already so now we can have wireless and the expensive frame. :-)
ReplyDeleteI sure understand, Kay, I've been slow to blog this week too because of grandkids. They are such a blessing though and, thankfully, everyone is very understanding.
ReplyDeleteWe're always glad you're online...whenever it is.
Yep, it's gramma time for me now, too, so you won't be hearing much from me for a while either.
ReplyDeleteAnd we have some lovely souveniers from Amsterdam that are awaiting frames, frames that will cost much more that the "art" unless I can convince Tom to make them. So it goes.
Big bucks. I am at a stage where I'm content with the grandsons' fingerpaintings and scribbles on the refrigerator with magnets or on the wall with masking tape. LOL
ReplyDeleteI like your Williamsburg Road sign. Just can't let go, eh Kay?
Interesting the special care your stuff needs when living on an island in the Pacific.
Gosh, I heard Hawaii was expensive, now I know. It seems to be trickling everywhere though, Connecticut is so expensive right now.
ReplyDeleteI have to laugh about KC. Those little ones have a whole world of their own! I haven't been finding the time to blog either. No little ones though.
Have a wonderful day Kay!
I was just hoping you're enjoying the family. Seems as if you are. Bet KC sleeping in there is a gorgeous sight. Tell all hello from a lady in Texas they don't even know - me.
ReplyDeleteKay, I have had a few things framed over the years and it always amazes me at how much it costs! I think it is so expensive to get things framed. My Dad started making frames for my Mom's watercolors because it was just too much to keep buying all these frames. He has it down to a science now.
ReplyDeleteOnce I purchased a piece of art I didn't even care for because I loved the frame. It is hanging in my living room.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment on my blog. Feel free to visit any time. Oahu was beautiful. Laie was a lovely little town. We also loved Matusomoto Shave Ice.
I have a (bad?) habit of often paying more for a frame than for the artwork itself (with a few exceptions). I work with a good framer who allows me to choose the types and numbers of mats and frames that *I* think are suitable to the pieces being framed. The end results are things I love in their entirety. I tell my kids that they are part of their inheritance.
ReplyDeleteYoung KC is a honey! I know you are greatly enjoying her visit.
