My kids are grown up and following their own dreams but I remember holding them and being embraced by the scent of their baby sweetness. Before we moved, I decided to save a couple of their outfits that I loved. I sewed my daughter's dress myself and had her preschool photo taken with her wearing it. My son wore his outfit when he was just 3 months old and full of sunshine and laughter. When I look at the shadow boxes I can almost feel myself carrying them again, hugging them and feeling them close by.
Kay.. What a wonderful idea preserving your children's outfits along with photos of them wearing the outfits. I'll have to remember to do this if I'm lucky enough to have grandchildren someday! Thanks for sharing your memories.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea. I still have my sons' first shoes and the shawls my mother made for them when they were born - the shawls still smell of 'baby'.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea the shadow boxes are for saving special outfits. The little dress looks very beautiful, it brings back memories of when I used to sew dresses for my daughter when she was little.
ReplyDeleteGlad that you like my hummingbird pic, thanks for your visit.
Your shadow boxes are such a great idea, Kay. I like how they're color coordinated, too. Very special keepsakes of your children's early years, for sure.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea-- sadly too late for me!! Will pass it on to my daughter though-- I did save her dress that she wore on her first day of school BUT of course I didn't make it1!You have so many talents!!
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of a pair of my son's [2 yr. old]blue pants with little footballs on it. I wish that I had kept them.
ReplyDeleteI did have some of his first grade artwork[when he was still in 1st grade] mounted onto a cardboard-type backing and matted. I hung up his artwork, and I'm glad that I did that.
how sweet, i was just thinking recently about digging out some momentoes of my dad's that i have in some boxes and making a shadow box. they mean nothing stored away. fun idea, especially like the photos that go along with them. at first i thought it was your grand children but remembered you have just one little girl so far...
ReplyDeleteWhat a good idea, I wish that I had kept some of my children's outfits. I know in my head which I would use, but they are long gone. You did a nice job on the little dress, I'll bet your daughter looked adorable.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting my blog. Now that I see your sewing talent, I wonder if you will ever make a quilt. I'll bet you would make a beautiful one.
You had a very good idea, Kay. Things like that help so many memories stay close. I also loved your description of "baby sweetness." I could just smell and touch it.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great idea! Wow! I want to use it too!!! I have saved so many things and this is just a wonderful way to enjoy the sweetness of days gone by, rather than the momentary sifting through a memory box. I love it!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the idea! Love the reality of them in your home!
ReplyDeleteI have a couple of the outfits that my children wore... none of those that I made for them. But, the two dollar question is: "Where are they stored?" So, what a sweet thing you've done. Your grandchildren will love seeing the little clothes that their parents once wore!
I have a sister-in-law who used sundresses, booties, t-shirts and other items that her babies wore and made a quilt out of them. She cuddles up with it on cold days, bad hair days, and days when she has the sniffles. She says it comforts her. I can well imagine!
I should do that with a couple of my daughter's outfits..those wonderful full dresses..I didn't make them myself, but they were so darn cute...Thank you Kay
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea Kay. I always find it a little sad to go through my kids clothes. I miss those little ones so much. I love them now, but there are moments in time while they were growing up that I wished I could separate the moment and keep it going.
ReplyDeletePrecious moments huh?
By the way, thanks for visiting, I know you're still adjusting to your move. I hope all is well.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful memory keeper! Something to keep - and treasure forever! Love this!
ReplyDeleteWhat memories! Time really does fly by, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteHey, I remember that dress! I remember either Tif wearing it, or the picture. Wow that was a long time ago...
ReplyDeleteHi Naomi,
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to hear from you. It's been a long time. Have you seen your mom's photos of her dig in Jerusalem? It's so exciting! Please give a g'day and shalom to your family for us. Tif should enjoy seeing her dress up in the shadow box. Perhaps you could do the same thing for your two gorgeous babies.
Shadow boxes are wonderful ways to keep memories, Kay. These are lovely.
ReplyDeleteWe had one done for my mother that holds her grandmother's christening dress. It too tells a story.
That's a great idea. I'm going to pass it on to daughter so we can preserve my grandson's cloths from his trip home from the hospital and his christening outfit. These would make great conversation pieces too.
ReplyDeleteHi Kay! A lovely keepsake and a great way to bring back wonderful memories. Your daughter's dress is beautiful. Lisa
