My Granddaughter's First Word!

My daughter just called to say that our little KC has finally, FINALLY spoken her first word. It's not "Mommy" or "Daddy."
Our daughter was pointing outside and asked, "What's that, KC?"
Her answer was, "Dat chree."

Incredible! She is her grandfather's favorite baby after all. Art beamed on hearing this seeing as he worked industriously for the U.S.Environmental Protection Agency for many, many years. Grandpa's reply was, "Nice to know she's an environmentalist."

  2. It is amazing how and when children decide to use their language skills. It is easy to forget how much more they know (and understand) than they tell us.

Nice photo too. She looks as if she is just taking a break to check something out.

  3. How sweet! Yes, that girl will be a nature lover like her grandparents.
Now that you are a long distance grandmother like I am, you will be so thankful for email photos and phone calls. Just wait until KC calls you up and starts jabbering away about something. Now that our granddaughter is three, we can make out most of what she says, but what a kick!

  5. How many children ever DO say mummy or daddy for their first word? Very few I bet. Our older son's first word was 'duck' and our younger son's was 'no'!!

  7. Congratulations! Chrees are indeed important to young and old. Dean's first word as a baby was, not surprisingly, Google. LOL

  8. Gosh her first word and so appropriate for her time in life.
She just looks so precious in that photo....and that's from behind.

You and Art are so lucky...I can only wish that when my adult children get married(hint hint married first would be great) that I have a precious healthy little grandchild like you have.

  11. She is so cute. Gotta love that pose! I'm not surprised those were her first words. Bet she has been there while you admired "dat chree" many times.

  12. It was really fun to read what all your kids' first words were. Amanda, I couldn't help chuckling about that "no." He must have been a fun kid.

  15. Precious moments! Great that you've memorialized her first word in case her mama loses her mental faculties like I have--- I was sure I would remember all their first words, and all the important milestones--- I don't!!!!
