Getting Ready For Our Granddaughter

We're so excited! Our daughter and granddaughter will be visiting us for a couple of months. Tif's husband has a computer job on the island of Kauai so they're coming in together tomorrow and then he'll go on to Kauai. He'll join us next week when his job is complete there. I think there's a possibility that he's got another job on three islands and if that's so he can come back again. Tif and KC will stay with us for two months because her husband has so many out of town jobs anyway. We're thrilled that we'll get to have them for so long though we feel badly that her husband has to be gone so much. It's very hard on a marriage.

In preparation for KC to be here, we've had to baby proof this house. It's been a little tricky since so much of the house is still not completed. We've got another 4-5 years worth of work to finish it off. One thing we absolutely had to do was to put in a child gate. We looked everywhere for a pressure type gate so we wouldn't have to put screws into the walls but couldn't find one. Ah well, we've settled on this one and figure that we'll have a grandchild and maybe someday, grandchildren come to visit so this will protect them from a fall down 21 steps.

  9. Oh, Kay. How wonderful to be able to spend time with them so soon, and for so long.
My daughter and our grandchildren will be back in Seattle next week and this time Daddy gets to come too. He is looking forward to a cool vacation after the heat of Colorado. We have lots of adventures planned.
    Have fun!

  10. Good for you! It is so nice not to have to worry about the stairs. My son rode a scooter down the basement stairs when he was three! Thank goodness he wasn't hurt - other than a few bumps and bruises.

  11. Ooooh this is going to make the transition so much nicer. What a blessed coincidence that it turned out this way. Let's hope Baby girl isn't able to manipulate and open the gate yet. LOL (just kidding)

  13. Whoopie!!! Let the good times begin! And,even with the extra "stuff" in nearly every room, the getting up earlier, or staying up later, the extra dishes to be washed, and toilet paper that seems to disappear in minutes... having the children and grandchildren stay is 100% joy for me!! Have a GREAT time, Kay! You're a lucky woman. Take lots of pix to share with us.

  15. My husband had a thing about not putting holes in walls and woodwork, so we ended up with no gate at all for our two little ones. Fortunately, they were always very well-behaved around stairs and we never had a problem.

I'm glad you couldn't find a pressure gate though to put at the top of the stairs - they honestly don't hold as well as the more firmly attached kind and they really only give you a false sense of security.
