Garden Fruits and Blooms

I love Lilies of the Valley. They are such a welcoming spring flower, but I don't even notice them until the scent floats up to me as I walk by. I like to take a little bunch for the kitchen where it works as a light air "freshener." The shy bell shape is so quaint. On the other hand, the lilac seems to overpower. My granddaughter is actually afraid of the lilac bush. Ah well, I guess she's an urban child as my daughter calls her. Our lilacs are almost in full bloom now. The cherry tree is starting to fruit. I have a feeling we didn't have enough bees to do the pollinating since I see a lot of the flowers failed to fruit. What a shame although we won't be here to enjoy cherry pies since we'll be on the road by then.

Later: I was out in the garden again and couldn't resist taking photos of the honeysuckle. I swear I thought I saw a hummingbird. Could it be possible? My daughter says it was either that or the biggest darn bee you ever saw.

  2. Lovely photographs. Lilac perfume is beautiful, but should certainly be kept outside to smell as you brush past it, I think it's far too powerful to bring indoors. Lily of the Valley though, gorgeous. I had some Lily of the Valley perfume once and I loved it, and the flowers just make you melt, they are so perfectly shaped and pure looking, just like snowdrops.

  3. I, too, just love the scent of Lily of the Valley. I picked a bouquet yesterday for my kitchen window. These I picked along the roadside nearby, because our large patch of Lily of the Valley behind the house isn't yet in full bloom, but almost. Do you also like the scent of lavender? I love it. It's probably my favorite scent of all. Beautiful photos!

  7. Hi! Great flower pictures. I had to laugh about the humming bird. Several years ago I was on my back deck reading. I heard this loud buzzing and said that must be one hell of a big bee. I turned to see the cutest humming bird feeding on my hanging flower basket.
Well have a good night and enjoy your humming bird. Lisa
